To offset a sharp decline in revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic, American Airlines announced Tuesday that it will be offering its own grocery delivery service. As fears of the virus prevent people from traveling, the airline said part of the plan is to rehire employees who had been laid off over the past few months.
“We are thrilled to offer this new service,” said company spokesman Jason Long, explaining that there will be no delivery fee if users purchase one or more tickets for a future flight. “Not only will it offset our decline in revenue, we’ve been able to rehire many of our pilots and flight attendants as delivery drivers.”
The airline added that all deliveries will be made via bicycles to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
