As President Donald Trump seeks to appoint his third Supreme Court justice in four years, Democratic lawmakers are now threatening to add 426 new justices when they, according to top Democrats, secure a majority in both congressional chambers.
The threat to “pack the court” stems largely from the fact that Democrats don’t believe the President should appoint a new justice in an election year, particularly only weeks before the election. “Trump is going to jam through a third justice,” exclaimed Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. “We’re going to pack the court with hundreds of liberal justices.”
One astute pundit aptly noted that adding 426 new justices would bring the total to 435, the same number of lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives.
