In an effort to calm down the increasingly polarizing political landscape, senate Democrats hosted an ice cream social on Friday morning, welcoming senators from both sides of the aisle to attend. Serving strictly a peach and mint combination of flavors, congressional Democrats believed the ice cream social would help bridge the divide between the two parties – as President Trump’s impeachment trial comes to a close.
“It’s a time to put politics aside, and enjoy some delicious peach mint ice cream,” said Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, who has admittedly polished off a 46 ounce tub of Blue Bunny in one sitting. “And what flavors go together better than peach and mint?”
Despite repeated efforts from Senate Democrats, Republicans rejected invitations to the ice cream social, primarily due to the flavors that were chosen. “Peach and mint? Are you kidding me?” shouted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is a self described vanilla-and-chocolate purist. “Disgusting! Those are the last two flavors I would put together.”
Ultimately, the ice cream social ended up being a partisan event. There were four Republicans who specified “maybe” on the Facebook event posting, but not one ended up attending.
