Controversy is brewing in Gadsden, Alabama after a young woman was seen driving a 1959 Cadillac Sedan de Ville with two bumper stickers, one that said “Coexist” and another that said “F*** Trump.” Laurie Spockenson, who sports a shortly-cropped, spiky blue hairdo, is a 23-year-old woman who works in the local shoe factory. Ms. Spockenson is an outspoken critic of President Trump and a delegate of Alabama’s eastern Communist Party USA chapter.
Residents in the area are furious over Spockenson’s seemingly brash political statement, as the town largely supported Trump in the 2016 presidential election. However, residents are even more befuddled by the seemingly mixed message Spockenson is portraying, as the two bumper stickers seem to contradict each other.
“So… she’s pushing ‘coexistence’ in one place and then two inches to the right, she’s denigrating the President and all his supporters,” said Huey Compton, who lives in Spockenson’s neighborhood. “If that’s not hypocrisy, I don’t know what is.”
“She’s got to choose one,” added Colleen Thomas, a grandmother of 22 and member of the American Sewing Guild. “Coexistence or Trump-bashing. Which is it? I tell ya… these dumb millennial hippies.”
Spockenson has since spoken out over the controversy. “I don’t understand what the problem is, but I’m going to be the bigger woman here,” she said on Tuesday. “I’ve removed the ‘coexist’ bumper sticker. My disdain for Trump and his supporters overshadows my belief in coexistence. Not that I don’t think the two beliefs can coexist.”
PS: I bet Ernie is too dense to understand the moronic irony in all of this…
